Windows SDK June 2006 CTP

This is one of those good news/bad news sorts of posts. First the good news. The Windows SDK June CTP is available for download from the download center. This is a full download of the SDK, at about 1.12 GB of size, and contains all content in the SDK, including updated documentation and samples. The download is in IMG form. We recommend you save the file to disk and rename it to .ISO. Due to the large size of the ISO file, we highly recommend you use a download manager tool to manage the ISO download.

To install the Windows SDK using the ISO file:

  • Accessing the ISO File - An ISO image file is an exact representation of a DVD, including the content and the logical format. The most common use of an image file is to write it to a blank DVD-R resulting in an identical copy of the original DVD including file name and volume label information. ISO Images can also be extracted directly to a file location by many DVD-R utilities, including the tool below.
  • Mounting ISO files virtually - You can use the Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP tool to mount the ISO image file virtually as CD-ROM devices without burning the image to a DVD. This tool is provided here for your convenience, and is unsupported by Microsoft Customer Services and Support.

Note that we recommend this SDK mainly for users who are running the June CTP release of the .NET Framework 3.0 (formerly known as WinFX). If you are running Windows Vista Beta 2 and .NET Framework 3.0 Beta 2, we recommend you stay with the Beta 2 release.

Now the bad news. We've been struggling with our release process and are still working to get the web setup published online. We're actively working to get this resolved, so please be patient with us as we work though these issues.
