ASP.NET MVC Preview 3

The ASP.NET MVC Preview 3 release provides a new Model-View-Controller (MVC) framework on top of the existing ASP.NET 3.5 runtime. This means that developers can take advantage of the MVC design patterns to create their Web Applications which includes the ability to achieve and maintain a clear separation of concerns (the UI or view from the business and application logic and backend data), as well as facilitate test driven development (TDD). The ASP.NET MVC framework defines a specific pattern to the Web Application folder structure and provides a controller base-class to handle and process requests for “actions”. Developers can take advantage of the specific Visual Studio 2008 MVC templates within this release to create their Web applications, which includes the ability to select a specific Unit Test structure to accompany their Web Application development. The MVC framework is fully extensible at all points, allowing developers to create sophisticated structures that meet their needs, including for example Dependency Injection (DI) techniques, new view rendering engines or specialized controllers. As the ASP.NET MVC framework is built on ASP.NET 3.5, developers can take advantage of many existing ASP.NET 3.5 features, such as localization, authorization, Profile etc.

Microsoft® Visual Studio Team System 2008 Database Edition GDR June CTP

In addition to providing support for SQL Server 2008 database projects, this release incorporates many previously released Power Tools as well as several new features. The new features include distinct Build and Deploy phases, Static Code Analysis and improved integration with SQL CLR projects. Database Edition no longer requires a Design Database. Therefore, it is no longer necessary to install an instance of SQL Express or SQL Server prior to using Database Edition.

This is a pre-release version of the Visual Studio 2008 Shell (isolated mode) with Service Pack 1. The Visual Studio Shell (isolated mode) provides a foundation on which you can build your own custom-branded tools environment that runs side by side with Visual Studio. By using the Visual Studio Shell (isolated mode), you can accelerate development of your tools environment by reusing the Visual Studio IDE in your application and focus on your core tooling problems.

The runtime binaries contained in this redistributable package do not require the binary components in the Visual Studio 2008 Shell (isolated mode) RTM release. You should redistribute the runtime binaries contained in this redistributable package on all computers that need to run the Visual Studio 2008 Shell (isolated mode).

This download contains the redistributable runtime binaries that you can distribute with your Visual Studio Shell (isolated mode) based application. For development and testing of your Visual Studio Shell (isolated mode) based application, please download the Visual Studio 2008 SDK.
